Jake's Big Game HuntsTalkeetna Mountains - Alaska
SPRING IN THE TALKEETNAS
We specialize in taking huge Talkeetna grizzly bear in early spring. I've hunted the Talkeetnas for over 12 years, and know the habits of these huge boars. We have guided several hunters for record book bear. This is a wonderful time of year to hunt in Alaska, and the ever changing weather can offer unique hunting challenges. Expect snowstorms or 70-degree weather on this hunt, long hikes over open tundra or snowshoeing across massive snow drifts. We base out of our Talkeetna base camp and fly to numerous areas, depending on snowfall and breakup conditions. The Talkeetna bear hides are magnificent, with hair as long as 10 inches on some trophies. Black bears are also numerous, with 6-foot bears commonplace throughout our hunting areas. My hunters see an average of 8 to 10 bears on each hunt. The area receives little hunting pressure from residents and non-residents, which accounts for the number of big bears taken from this area.

HUNTING METHODS
We fly into a remote wilderness area, where we establish a spike camp and begin glassing the hillsides, targeting the big boars immediately after they emerge from their dens. We hunt high above timberline for bears before they have a chance to rub their hides on lowland spruce, which provides you with the best possible trophy. After emerging from their dens, bears are lethargic for several days. This provides us with a strategic advantage to stalk within 100 yards of the bear and take an opportunity for a well-placed shot. Also in the spring the big boars are always on the move looking for sows. Base camp is comfortable, with heaters, spacious dining tent and stand-up bunk tents.

FALL IN THE TALKEETNAS
The Talkeetna Mountains offer some of the world's finest scenic wilderness and big game hunting opportunities. These mountains have a long history of producing record-book Dall Sheep, Grizzly, Alaska-Yukon Moose, and Black Bear. Our clients take record-class animals each year. Our fly-in base camp is conveniently located near numerous valleys that are among the most beautiful and game-rich areas that Alaska has to offer. You'll hunt from one of my many spike camps far away from the crowds. I book a limited number of hunters each year, which provides you with the best opportunity for a trophy.
